Clown & Comedy
Since 2013 June has had extensive training in Pochinko Clown and physical comedy. Her first solo clown performance, My Name is SUMIKO won the pick of the Fringe at the 2019 Vancouver Fringe Festival. Sumiko, her subversive, kawaii, and raunchy clown character has performed at various festivals and events in Vancouver including Paul Anthony's Talent Time (2019), Powell Street Festival (2019), Vancouver Fringe Festival (2019), and Verses Festival (2019). She has also studied bouffon, a macabre form of clowning with Eric Davis (Red Bastard) and Karen Hines (Pochsy). Her most recent solo, Gloria Fukomachi - Keynote Address (2023) is a dark comedy featuring June's latest character, Gloria. She has also studied stand up comedy with Blind Tiger Comedy and performed her first standup set in 2023. June blends Japanese and North American comedic sensibilities to create a subversive and surreal comedic experience.
